AXIL XCOR PRO: Digital Hearing Protection That Doesn’t Feel Wearing Two Soup Cans

There are a few pieces of outdoor gear that don’t seem exciting until you need them.
A good knife.
A dry pair of socks.
A fire-starter that actually works.
And hearing protection that lets you still hear what’s going on around you.

The AXIL XCOR PRO earbuds fall into that last category. They are marketed as tactical, true wireless, digital hearing protection earbuds with Bluetooth, hearing enhancement, and touch controls. In plain language: they are electronic earplugs that try to protect your hearing without making you feel cut off from the world.
Now, before we go too far: this review is based on AXIL’s published product information and home use, not a long-term field test. So no, I did not crawl through a cedar swamp, fall into a beaver pond, and then blame the earbuds for my life choices. Not yet.
What Are the AXIL XCOR PRO Earbuds?
The XCOR PRO earbuds are designed for shooting, hunting, power sports, active use, and general hearing protection. AXIL says they provide digital hearing protection by compressing loud sounds over 85 dB, rather than simply shutting sound off entirely. That means the idea is to keep you aware of normal sounds around you while reducing damaging loud noise.
That is the big selling point for outdoor folks.
Traditional foam earplugs are cheap and effective, but they also make you feel like you’re underwater. That’s fine when you are sighting in a rifle at the range. It’s less ideal when you also want to hear range commands, your hunting partner, your dog, an ATV coming down the trail, or your brother asking where you put the coffee.
Spoiler: the coffee was probably his fault anyways.

Why They Make Sense for Bushcraft, Hunting, and Range Days
The best thing about this type of ear protection is situational awareness.
In the bush, hearing matters. It is not just about safety from loud sounds. It is also about knowing what is happening around you. Wind shifting. A branch cracking. Someone walking up behind you. A dog moving through camp. A squirrel making enough noise to convince you it’s a moose.
AXIL says the XCOR PRO earbuds can enhance safe sounds while protecting against loud ones. That makes them interesting for hunters, shooters, and anyone who spends time around sudden noise but still needs to hear normal conversation.
For range use, they solve a real annoyance: bulky earmuffs. Muffs work, but they can interfere with cheek weld on long guns, get uncomfortable with hats, and turn into sweaty clamp-on head vices in hot weather. Earbuds are lighter, lower-profile, and easier to keep in a small kit.
Where They Could Be Useful
The XCOR PRO earbuds look best suited for:
Range days: Especially rifle or shotgun shooting where bulky muffs can get in the way.
Hunting: The hearing enhancement could help with awareness while still offering protection if you take a shot.
ATV, side-by-side, or power equipment use: Water, dust, and wind resistance make them more outdoor-friendly than regular consumer earbuds.
Camp chores with noise: Chainsaws, generators, power tools, or anything else that turns “relaxing weekend outside” into “why does my head ring?”
Everyday Bluetooth use: AXIL includes Bluetooth audio and call support, so these are not only single-purpose range plugs.
The Good

The biggest advantage is the combination of hearing protection, hearing enhancement, and Bluetooth in one device. You could use them at the range, then leave them in while doing chores, listening to music, or taking a phone call. That’s handy.
The USB-C charging is also a win. Nobody needs one more weird cable in the truck, range bag, or camping bin.
Battery life also looks solid for most day-use scenarios. Up to 13 hours in Hear Control only is enough for a long range day or a full hunting sit. The shorter 5-hour rating when using Hear Control and Bluetooth together is worth noting, but still reasonable if you are not running music all day.
The included multiple ear tips matter too. With hearing protection, fit is everything. The product page notes that the protection rating depends on ear tip style, with foam providing more protection and silicon is not recomended for the range.
The Not-So-Good
The first downside is price. I bought these on sale, but these are not impulse-buy earbuds. That is real money, especially once you convert it into Canadian dollars, and add extra shipping and duty, and then quietly stare into the middle distance for a minute. (total was almost $500 - but I was committed)
Second, electronic earbuds require maintenance. Foam plugs can live in a pocket, get lost, and be replaced for pocket change. These need charging, cleaning, and a case. They are better gear, but they are also more gear.
Third, “water and dust resistant” does not mean “drop them in the lake and continue your day like nothing happened.” I still treat them like electronics. Keep them clean, dry when possible, and away from the bottom of the tackle box where old split shot and mystery lint go to die.
Bushcraft Highway Take
For the average beginner, these are probably overkill.
For someone who hunts, shoots, runs power equipment, rides ATVs, or spends time around sudden loud noise, the AXIL XCOR PRO earbuds make a lot more sense. They are not just earbuds. They are hearing protection first, with Bluetooth and awareness features added on.
That matters, because hearing damage is one of those things that sneaks up on you. You do not notice it right away. Then one day you realize the campfire has a high-pitched ringing noise, except the campfire is not lit.
Not ideal. Even for someone that grew up wearig a walkman
Final Verdict
The AXIL XCOR PRO earbuds look like a strong option for outdoors people who want low-profile electronic hearing protection with Bluetooth built in. The standout features are the 27–29 dB SNR / 21–23 dB NRR protection, sound compression over 85 dB, up to 6x hearing boost, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C charging, and useful battery life for range or hunting use.
They are not cheap, and they are not a replacement for basic safety habits. But if your outdoor life includes firearms, power tools, motors, or noisy gear, they could earn their place in the kit.
Bushcraft Highway rating: 4 out of 5 coffee cups.
One cup deducted because the price stings a bit. Four cups awarded because protecting your hearing while still hearing the world around you is a pretty good trick. Superior Hearing for Professional, Recreational and Everyday Wear – AXIL
